Saturday, Oct. 18, 9 a.m.: Revolutionary Remnants in Wolf Den Park. Walk led by Former Park Ranger, John Folsom.
We will start at the visitors parking lot of Wolf Den Campgrounds, 147 Wolf Den Dr., Pomfret. We will hike about three miles in Mashamoquet Brook State Park visiting the grave of revolutionary war veteran, Stephen Averill Avery; stopping at the former site of the Sproul House (also known as the Wolf Den House); and finally, we will stop at a stone quarry.
At each stop, we will spend about 20 minutes discussing the history of the site, answering some questions, and posing some questions that we do not know the answers to. We will hike at a casual pace of one and a half to two miles per hour. The hike will be over some trails that are rock, and root covered; possibly muddy; has one small stream that we will rock hop across; and has a few short but steep hills. Hikers should wear appropriate footwear, be dressed for the weather, bring water and a snack. The total adventure will take about three hours.
Meet at the Wolf Den Campgrounds Office; 147 Wolf Den Dr., Pomfret.
